My mind often travels back to the dreams I had during my past trips.In my childhood, I often sat on the three-person hard train seats along the Lanzhou-Xinjiang Railway. For the whole night, I was laying on the narrow but reassuringly safe space. The train’s wheels chuffed rhythmically. Will the railway take me home soon? I thought.
When I was a student, I made trips whenever I could during summer and winter vacations. In my backpack were sketchbooks, tubular drawing pens, and my water bottle. They were my good companions during my rare and precious dreams in airports in the morning, buses where I put up for the nights, and underpasses before train stations.
I am still in the good habit of being able to fall asleep anywhere. I can fall into a deep sleep before a plane takes off. I sleep from one period to another and have one dream after another. Half-awake, I cast a glance outside the window, seeing multi-colored sunlight behind black clouds, or moonlight on clouds, or lightning moments, or sunny hours.
I only wish that as time goes by with everything changing, I could remain mentally and physically like a flying bird.
