Rod and Dave had Summer Parties in Newtown for years, and then they moved to Neutral Bay to a house with a pool and a sauna, so, naturally, the summer party became a pool party. The parties were by invitation only; Rod knew everyone who came. Rod is a photographer himself; he let me photograph the parties, and I appreciate the access he gave me. They were my favourite parties.

Rod and Dave’s summer party was shown as part of Queertography – a Head On exhibition during Sydney Mardi Gras 2023 for World Pride.

Since 1970, William Yang has photographed Sydney’s social life. In 1989 he integrated his skills as a writer and a visual artist and began performing monologues with slide projection in the theatre. They tell personal stories and explore issues of identity. After doing twelve full-length performances, many of which toured the world, he now works with Contemporary Asian Australian Performance teaching others his storytelling method. William had a retrospective exhibition, ‘Seeing and Being Seen’ at QAGOMA, Brisbane, in 2021.
