I identify parallels between the ever evolving constitution of nature, and the inevitable personal growth that I experience during each of the solitary road trips that I witness her.
For many years I have escaped the city in my car to travel the Australian landscape. It is such a regular part of my life that an extended period of time without getting out into our country leaves me feeling lost and restless.
‘Sojourn’ is a collection of images taken in 2014 over many such journeys. They are significant to me because they coincided with, or indeed, were the catalyst, for immense personal and emotional growth. Water is spiritually recognised as a conduit for emotions. It is appropriate, then, that most of my images centre around this theme. In each picture, I have attempted to photograph the landscape as though I were taking a portrait; achieving an intimacy with the subject, so as to evoke the personality of the moment.
