Huntvale will feast on your secrets.
Being a part of the LGBTQIA+ community, with a ‘traditional Asian family’ background, has always made me anxious. All the uncertainty about myself, the unsettling criticism, and even the blame from the outside world had to be braved alone. I keep secrets to protect myself when I’m not ready to share. The secret is a fig leaf. Everyone has secrets, more or less, not because we don’t want to reveal our true selves but because we’re not ready to be judged.
The ongoing series of huntvale is the product of a reconciliation with the secret. It reveals people’s dirtiest, most disturbing, most unsettling fantasies. It’s like a theatre of the absurd, a play of ruination.
Ziliang Guo, also known as KUZ, is an Australia-based Chinese photographer. He enjoys integrating a unique mix of still-life and tableau photographic elements. Leveraging the creativity of his imagination, KUZ tends to convey stories and narratives through his lens. His works use symbolic language with ‘corruption and new birth’ as foundational themes. KUZ’s works intersect at the point where his passion meets inspiration, constantly experimenting with new techniques. He loves challenging himself and pushes the limits of his creativity to develop works that focus on people, places, abstract forms, representations, and things in their element. KUZ plays with light and shadow and how to use these to portray his subjects.
