HOMEGROUND is Anne Zahalka’s latest body of work exploring the vernacular of sport and leisure imagery as it has been represented through pub paintings of the 30’s – 60’s and travel posters from the period.

She revisits these idealised images to expose the steriotypes and reflect the changes that have occurred across gender, sexuality, ethnicity and class.

These images take up positions on the fronts of four local pubs in Newtown in the suburb she lives and will contest those glorified scenes of the past with the real players and teams of today.

The exhibition will also include her highly successful series Playing the Game!

Works will be exhibited on the fronts of:

Artists talk, Saturday 22 May, 3pm
Zanzibar Hotel, Newtown
