For Sarah – The African Princess
Dagmar van Weeghel

portrait
This is a story about Africa, stolen childhoods and transformations after adoption. It pays homage to Sarah Forbes Bonetta, an orphaned African princess b.1843 who remarkably became the goddaughter of Queen Victoria of Great Britain. She struggled with a life between two continents and two identities. The model is Kajote Barbara, a true ‘Sarah’ herself, orphaned at age 8 in Uganda going on to being runner up in Miss Uganda 2011.
