Oasis

I observed Kanazawa and how the architecture reflected some ideas I had about Japanese culture. The angular shapes and lines of buildings in the photo create a balanced frame for the human figure walking through, who would only fit this composition at the exact time the photo was taken. Japan works within a system in which everyone fits neatly into a useful occupation no matter how small, resulting in low unemployment, quality work ethic, and an uninterrupted systematic flow of the country. As much as this oasis of productivity appeals to those who lust for a tidy society, the social expectation that the individual must stick to their place within the structure comes with numerous social issues for those who break away from this expectation, whether it be intentionally or simply because their brain wasn’t wired to be a piece of someone else’s puzzle.
