Hoover Dam, Arizona, USA

landscape
The Hoover Dam wall and its iconic intake towers – seen during Lake Mead’s low water levels in 2019. The Colorado River Basin region has been locked a multi-decade drought – the worst in 1200 years – and the river flow to the lake is critically low. The last time Lake Mead was full was in 1983, and officials fear that the basin will become drier and drier over the coming decades with an ever-warming climate.
