Riturné (come back) is an exploration of the inner self through the return to one’s hometown. It captures Curti’s need to establish a new connection with his native province of Cuneo after returning for the first time in years.
This project studies the relationship between man and territory, personal conflicts, and the idea of family and belonging. Memory, absence, home. What is gone and what, sooner or later, will also disappear.
It documents everyday life in a creative process influenced by being outdoors and exploring the artist’s environment without geopolitical boundaries.
Riturné attempts to maintain and preserve a living connection with a past that is becoming history, freezing small fragments before they melt because everything is impermanent.
Documentary photographer Mauro Curti was born in a small village in Cuneo, Italy. After several jobs in different sectors, he took a course in photography before leaving Italy for a research trip, travelling around Central and South America for several years. He settled in Buenos Aires in 2015, where he deepened his studies in analogue photography.
At the end of 2019, Curti returned to his hometown and started working on his long-time project, Riturné, which won him a scholarship for a Master’s Degree in Documentary Photography.
Curti has exhibited in Madrid, Rome, and Greece and has been selected as a finalist for several photo festivals.
