An exhibition of new works from Grace Costa, celebrating her lifelong love of horses as handed down to her, from father to daughter. Costa explores her innate attraction to horses through her lens, photographing still and unbridled horses in one of Canberra’s most treasured sites bringing them out of their natural surroundings. Costa exposes the form and character of the horses she has selected for this series. ‘HORSE’ is a striking portrait series capturing horses in a moment of complete stillness while posing for their portrait, in a truly unique setting.

They stand still within the burnt-out ruins of the Yale Columbia Dome at Mount Stromlo Observatory—but never for long. Award-winning photographer, Grace Costa, had to work quickly when shooting the subjects in her new solo exhibition: ‘HORSE’. “I wanted to express what I love about horses; the form and character and bring them out of the natural setting of the paddock and into our man made world,” Grace said.

Grace gained her Advanced Diploma of Commercial Photography through the Canberra Institute of Technology (CIT) in early 2000. Grace has spent the last 16 years building a substantial and multi-award winning portfolio. She has exhibited her work throughout Australia – most notably in the finalist exhibition of the National Photographic Portrait Prize, 2014 at the National Portrait Gallery. Besides her work in the commercial photography realm and her extensive exhibition history, Grace is very active in the photography community. She mentors budding photographers and hosts master classes for those learning the art form. Grace is frequently a guest lecturer at the CIT to students studying the same Diploma she once did. She has also been a judge and guest-speaker at a number of colleges and photography groups throughout the ACT. Grace’s fine art photography has been acquired by many private collections, and is currently represented by The Photography Room, Canberra.
