Seeking a more informed representation of his native country, Mat Hay spent three years documenting the remote communities and terrain of the Scotland’s Central Highlands. He witnessed modern life thriving on the cusp of isolation, and the inherent bond between people, animals, and this rugged environment. The prevailing images are dominated by historical context and nostalgia and conceal the reality of daily life and the extent of human influence on the landscape.
