As adults, we tend to be observant of nature. Children, however, will immerse themselves in nature’s offerings. A hands-on exploration of the natural environment provokes children into thought and action. When we see a beautiful flower, they will discover all they can do with it. Subsequently, they deepen their connection to the land in a way, we have perhaps, sadly outgrown.
This series was created to document my family’s travels through the National Parks of the Northern Territory; using diptychs to evoke the senses. Our city-living kids embraced the opportunity and fully immersed themselves in the experience: the heat, the dry, the rich earth and the even richer culture. They were discovering their very own dream world, where the human element enriches the understanding of the environment and vice versa.
A photographer of people and places. My work is inspired by beautiful light, the great outdoors and my kids, with their infectious, disinhibited curiosity and innate desire to explore their ever-expanding world.
