In this exhibition Thomas and Andreas are showing two different views of 2 different cities.
Thomas shows his impressions of people in Sydney and their sometimes unintentional relationship to the environment they are in.
Andreas captures the impression of travelling on subways in Munich and tries to capture the uniqueness of every station in one single picture. Can people recognise the environment within a very short timeframe?
Subway Station Fingerprints
The abstract images shown try to answer the question: “is it possible to determine the station on the vast network of >100 stations on the Munich subway by catching a 2 second glimpse when you enter the station on a train?”. Does each station have a unique fingerprint? Leaving the shutter of the camera open for 2 seconds while the train is moving into the station could provide that fingerprint. The resulting images are abstract in nature and show intense colours as differentiation.
City Life
Photographed on the streets of Sydney and inner suburbs, each image is its own story. The photos invite the viewer to ask questions, not only about the picture but also about themselves and their relationship to their environment, to their fellow humans and to life.
