Anástasis is a collaborative project portraying the psychological condition of Anastasia, a resilient young Ukrainian woman suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In May 2022, Russian attacks razed her grandparents’ home in Donbass, forcing her to take refuge in Italy. The constant concern for the safety of her loved ones, the isolation, and the sudden upheaval caused her persistent emotional burden.
The images convey her distress and reflect her new condition as a refugee. She is underscoring how war leaves indelible marks, not only on the peoples and countries involved but on the human psyche.
Anástasis highlights how such circumstances force many to face the destruction of memories and a sense of security with courage.
