Paul Hoelen & Troy Melville. A deeply unique body of work in both its intimacy and scope intended to both challenge and explore what defines healthy masculinity in Australian culture today.

This powerfully moving multi-media exhibition has won multiple awards for its impact on the health and well-being of both men and boys in Australia in 2019. Shot in complete confidentiality over almost two decades, this documentary exhibition presents a deeply unique body of work in both its intimacy and scope intended to both challenge and explore what defines healthy masculinity in Australian culture today.

In a time when much of the world’s media is choosing to focus on the darker side of what men are capable of, this project provides a refreshing, welcome and important counterbalance. It portrays the open-heartedness, courage, and vulnerability of men coming together to face their issues and work on becoming better men. Better fathers, brothers, partners and sons.

Paul Hoelen: Photographer. Troy Melville: Videographer

Tasmania based, self-taught, and travel-hungry, Hoelen has lived a diverse career over his two decades as an image-maker with a consistent focus on humanitarian and conservation-based projects. He is a Master of Photography in the AIPP (2 Gold Bars), Fellow of the NZIPP (2 Gold Bars), two times Winner and 4 x Finalist for International Photographer of the Year in NZ, 3 x Tasmanian Professional Photographer of the Year and 7 x Tasmanian Landscape Photographer of the Year. He judges regularly at a state, national and international level, runs photography workshops worldwide and is a member of the progressive Landscape co-operative The Light Collective. His fine-art work is represented by Source Photographica and One Fine Print.
