ABOUT THE SERIES
This work is from the series SCAR, which captures the beautiful traditional designs of Australia’s first peoples, using photographs and then carving the prints with lines of cultural design language. The project expresses the trauma of generational oppression from first and second contact.
ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHER
As a Djugan and Yawuru man with tribal connections to Jabirr Jabirr and Gooniyandi people, Michael is inspired by the unique landscapes and people of the Kimberley region. Their photography draws on his personal history, as well as contemporary social and political issues facing First Nations people.
