Victoria’s forgotten drought
Jake Nowakowski
landscape
A passing cloud throws a shadow over a decimated paddock where Dan Boland hand-feeds his depleted flock of sheep at his drought-affected property in Giffard West. Few people had heard of how drought was strangling farms across East Gippsland – the suggestion that farmers were struggling was met with scepticism. Nothing could have prepared me for what I saw when I arrived. It was like I’d driven into a dystopian world.
