From the early 1980’s artist Paul Dooley, instigated and managed artists’ collectives, galleries, studios and initiatives in Sydney, founding exhibition spaces in disused warehouses, factories and other run-down spaces. As a gallerist and curator he was responsible for many avant-garde and controversial exhibitions including The Cathedral of the Industrial Trapeze, with huge aerial sculptures, drawings and installations. Paul focused on showcasing emerging artists at Airspace, and was at the forefront of the radical intersections of performance, art and technology with the group Virtual Object.
