Our Local Fireie
Nigel Lough

portrait
A quiet and humble character stands dutifully in uniform on the sand of his local beach. Andrew is a volunteer firefighter on Sydney’s Northern Beaches who tirelessly spends his weekends serving his local community. The beach is a great leveler. Without your everyday uniform, stripped down to your swimming costume or boardshorts, you could be anybody. This was the inspiration behind the series that this photograph was taken from; beach-goers in their daily “uniform” and how differently we perceive them.
