Maratus Borealis
Max Melamed

student
This is a photograph of a Maratus spider, a member of the jumping spider family. Its size is no more than four millimetres in width, making them very difficult to find, let alone photograph. This image was taken whilst the spider was lined up perfectly with the background of a bush and a pool cover, forming a blended brown/green backdrop. These spiders don’t enjoy staying still, as they literally jump around, so getting an image of it is always a pleasure to see.
