Fraud Blocker

This week we’re running another fantastic book giveaway!

Home Sweet Home by Rubi Lebovitch, accompanied his widely exhibited show of the same title, which was also included in the 2017 Head On Photo Festival. The work speaks of domesticity, the mundane and the absurd: there’s more than a hint of humour in it. Rubi takes everyday objects and scenarios and makes them ridiculous: multiple multiplug adapters are plugged into each other for just a single device; a neatly folded ironed shirt retains the scorch mark of the iron in its centre; a couch is precariously raised on one side by a car jack.

The images are minimal, with the focus of each scenario on the objects. The photos lack a storyline, leaving it to the viewer to figure out what is going on.

The restlessness characterizing my work is connected to Freud’s concept of The Uncanny, which locates the origins of horror in the homely and familiar. The anxiety these scenes arouse undermines the peacefulness and security usually associated with home – Rubi Lebovitch

Rubi is a photographer living and working in Tel Aviv, Israel. He completed an MFA in Art and photography at Bezalel Academy of Art and Design and has exhibited his work both in Israel and internationally.

This is another wonderful addition to any avid photobook collectors’ collection, so head to our Instagram for your chance to get this great book!
