On the last weekend in March, our Head On Foundation team ran an unforgettable photography workshop at the Arkie Whiteley Retreat in the picturesque town of Hill End with the generous support of Sarah Ducker.
It was a jam-packed few days filled with creativity, collaboration, and plenty of inspiration! Led by Moshe Rosenzveig OAM, Director of Head On Photo Festival, and joined by the incredibly talented photographers Murray Fredericks and Dr Judith Nangala Crispin, the workshop proved to be an enriching experience for all attendees.
This wasn’t just any photography workshop—it was an opportunity to dive deep into the art of storytelling. From developing a unique voice to connecting with audiences through visual and textual elements, participants got hands-on experience crafting narratives that truly resonate. Whether it was sequencing images for a photo book or combining text with photography for added impact, the sessions offered something valuable for every skill level.
Highlights
Moshe Rosenzveig OAM opened the photo meet and provided expert advice on sequencing photos for books, exhibitions, and articles, ensuring narrative flow and impact.

Dr Judith Nangala Crispin wowed participants with her insights on blending text and imagery for deeper storytelling. Her practical session on creating ‘sun prints’ and ‘Chemograms’ was a hit—everyone loved experimenting with this fascinating technique!

Murray Fredericks generously shared his impeccable approach to turning creative ideas into stunning exhibitions and led an engaging session on time-lapse photography as a storytelling tool.

Each participant received personalised feedback from Moshe, Murray, and Judith, which made the learning experience even more impactful.
But beyond the workshops and practical sessions, the weekend was filled with camaraderie and connection. Pip’s delicious catering (with help from Anita, Sarah, Franky and the two Bens) kept everyone fuelled for the busy days ahead. Mealtimes were transformed into a great opportunity for participants to bond, share ideas, and discuss their creative journeys.

As the weekend drew to a close, it was clear that this was more than just a workshop—it was an inspiring journey into the heart of visual storytelling. Attendees walked away energized and equipped with new skills and fresh perspectives to take their photography to the next level.
