Holiday season is upon us! As people of the northern hemisphere gather around the fire and those of us in the south hit the beach, photographers everywhere are huddled around computers with Adobe programs open and compact cards scattered about. Tis’ the season for photographers to submit works and cross their fingers. We have complied a list of some of the best photography competitions quickly approaching on the horizon.
First on the list is the unique competition, Dis-Moi Dix-Mots, by Alliance Francaise de Sydney. This competition pays homage to the diversely beautiful French language that’s spoken around the world. By choosing 10 French words used in various locations of the world, the competition asks photographers to submit a photo that represent the pre-chosen words. Submissions are open from 7 December to 7 February, 2016, and is only open to residents of New South Wales, Australia. http://photocompetition.afsydney.com.au/
Next up is the 2nd Annual Feature Shoot 2015 Emerging Photography Awards. This competition aims to seek out the up-and-coming photographers who need a little boost to start their new careers off with a bang. The award winning blog, Feature Shoot, asks for a maximum of 5 photos per submission in any genre, with an explanation of the series. With judges from National Geographic Magazine, Invisible Photographer Asia and Huston Center for Photography, we know the winner are bound for great exposure. POPCAP is another unique competition brought to you by the Piclet.org. This competition focuses on promoting contemporary African photography and those works that specifically “engages with the African continent and/or its diaspora,” says the organization’s website. An international panel of judges will choose five winners of whom will receive global exposure at various festivals and exhibitions. Entries open until 7 February, 2016. http://www.popcap.cc/
Lastly, yours truly Head On Photo Festival will soon be calling for 2016 submissions. Entries in four categories, portrait, landscape, mobile and student will be judged without the artists’ names to elevate the pure quality of work. Winning photography will be featured in the Sydney based festival as well as other various international platforms. The competition ends 14 February, 2016, and winners will be announced at the 2017 annual Head On Photo Festival opening.
