Alice Sarginson: Aqua Ladies

When a group of inner-west women started aqua aerobics at their local pool, they had no idea that it would lead to more than just fitness – least of all, posing for a glamorous calendar.

But a cause close to their heart led them to do just that to raise funds for multiple sclerosis (MS).

The calendar depicts women styled inspired by the look of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s in a beautiful and tasteful way.

The aqua ladies project was made possible by students from the Napoleon Purdis Cosmetic Academy, a talented theatre hair design and stylist, and photographer Alice Sarginson, giving their Sundays for a month.

MS Australia is enthusiastic about the calendar project and hoping the sale proceeds will boost valuable funds for research.

“It was a delight to work with these ladies,” said Ms Sarginson.

“I was excited at first to simply be involved in such a worthy cause. But each week we found we were also creating something quite beautiful that we could be very proud of. We were also having a lot of fun!

“This was largely due to Robert’s (the stylist’s) immense dedication and inspiration from the original calendar concept to styling the final image. He was often up until 3 am the night before shooting, setting wigs and hand sewing the final finishing on pieces. I must thank the ladies themselves whose trust in us allowed us free reign in creating their characters.”

Grand Delusions by Alice Sarginson is on display at Sun Studios, 42 Maddox Street, Alexandria until October 29 with a calendar launch event from 6 pm on Friday October 28. Limited edition calendars can be pre-ordered by emailing [email protected].
