The Grose Valley in the Blue Mountains was a popular and important place for early photography in Australia. It has also been represented in sublime paintings by artist including, Conrad Martens and Eugene von Guerard. My photograph makes historical references to these artists and early photographers. This is achieved by exaggerating the picturesque and romantic aesthetic with a vision of sunlight streaming into the dark and foreboding valley. The image is from one photograph and that has been digitally enhanced.
