Monochrome or black and white affords a more abstract interpretation without the seduction of colour. Armed with my trusted roll film camera, I ventured out in search of a perspective that resonates the power and beauty of Sydney’s coastline. Preferring the immediacy of photographing hand-held, which allows ease of access but limits depth of field usually a requirement for landscape. It was late morning; the light was magic, full of contrast, the wind offshore and the surf solid. To my amazement a swimmer emerged into my field of view, I paused and waited for the moment that felt right before squeezing the shutter.
