Sets of Circumstance is part of a series of images which depict me in the act of photographing or filming the Maros River. This is part of a larger project about place and identity in which I travelled along the Maros River and recorded the journey. The Maros carries my name. These images are a record of my own place ballet which structured the journey. Here, the panorama of the landscape operate as counterweight to my distracted photographer self. I am an alien to this place, perched in a tiny ferryman’s boat. The river is re-presented as a sickly yellow, slightly alien, and unreal backdrop to the act of my self-definition. With my eyes fixed to the lens, I line up the shot and compose the image while the landscape surrounds me occupying its own space.
