Fraud Blocker

Remains of the Day investigates urban wastelands, the largely unseen machinery of our consumer culture. These residual landscapes are the aftermath of our pleasure. The rubbish is both repelling and attractive.

Close ups of discarded mattresses create dense patterns. By inverting the photos the negative side of consumerism is emphasised. As an x-ray points out disease and weakness, so these photos expose our waste as being a shameful side of our lifestyle. Printed on metallic paper, used in glossy advertising, highlights the connection between consumerism and waste.

By highlighting the sublime and the overwhelming volume of waste I hope to challenge us to think about our responsibility.
