North by North East #6 is part of a body of work that navigates fictional landscapes. The image references a monumental natural formation in a state of disintegration. The image was created in the studio through the use of a variety of materials and casting processes. Light and shadow are employed to manipulate surface, obscure detail, direct our focus and create atmosphere. The experience of isolation, old-world expeditions into unknown territory, dystopic landscapes and cultural artifacts have been central research areas whilst developing this image. Additionally, the content of this image was greatly influenced by residency experiences in Iceland and Finland.
