The Moon House

This golf course surrounds “The Park” in Queensland, one of Australia’s oldest psychiatric hospitals. My father was a resident psychiatrist, my family, along with others, grew up on its 400 acres, surrounded by 200 acres of golf course. This strange transitional zone between fantasy and reality, was a place of middle class play by day, and transgression at night. The residents’ children would congregate on the course at sunset. It was also a refuge for patients, evading their proscriptive routines, who could escape into the dark, through the all-encompassing green swathe that carved the institution out like an island.
