I can still remember it clearly – the bright sunny morning of the last day of our travels aboard the ship M/S Expedition along the Antarctic Peninsula, leaving Deception Island and heading back towards the Drake Passage. We were treated to the most stunning icebergs – each one contoured in some unique shape and pattern and constantly changing, with the most magnificant deep blue clear ocean beneath. Even more spectacular was the good fortune with the weather: deep blue skies. What I loved about this photo was that amidst this majesty, sat a lone penguin lost in the immense iceberg, a speck on the incredible blue meringue floating on the Antarctic waters. Without the zoom, it was often difficult to even see these tiny beautiful birds, somehow at home in this stunning yet seemingly inhospitable environment.
