After feeding the ducks by the lake in Maluga Passive Park, this lady stood, soaking up the natural tranquility of the surrounds as the warm afternoon sun enveloped the scene. Captured in Birrong, in Sydney’s south west, scenes such as these show natural habitats meeting suburban streets. The aim of this series, ‘On the Periphery’, is to capture natural environments in Sydney’s West – to evoke a visceral experience, as the places themselves do. These landscapes are not remote, but are within our reach in our day to day lives, playing an important role in fostering our connection to nature, in our urbanised culture.
