After 4 hours of trekking through Los Glaciares National Park on the first day in the sleepy town of El Chalten in Argentine Patagonia, we were not sure what to expect at the top. When we arrived, tired and weary, to this magical sight – the whole tour group was rendered speechless. Not only had the clouds and wind, both typical weather in Patagonia, behaved to provide an unusually temperate and clear day and reveal the stunning rocky heights of Cerro Fitzroy (3359m) but the bright sunshine rendered the icy lake a stunning crystalline turquoise with ice still floaing amongst the towering reflections. In a trip that encompassed Chilean and Argentine Patagonia – this sight remained one of the most spectacular, awe-inspiring and simply enchanting.
