This image is the first of a series I was working on which involved photographing rural south-east Queensland while referencing painters such as John Glover (1767-1849) and other early Australian colonial artists. Taken during a drought period, the area around my home is brown and desolate and can often appear menacing to those not used to the harsh conditions of rural life. To me, it is exquisite and has it’s own beauty. To me, this image captured the feeling of loneliness and conjured up thoughts of days gone by in Colonial Australia.
