Before dawn at Otowa Bridge

Early morning, before dawn, in Hokkaido (Japan) in winter. The temperature is minus twenty-six degrees centigrade and there is fog lying on the surface of the river because it is below the frost point which for that morning was minus eighteen degrees.

A number of red-crested cranes are waiting for the temperature to warm up a bit so they can fly away.
