ZAHALKAWORLD – an artist’s archive is a significant exhibition that showcases important works from Anne Zahalka’s photographic career, along with various collected materials from her studio and archive.
Originally launched at the Museum of Australian Photography in 2023, this version at the National Art School features over 100 pieces from 15 photographic series, including Resemblance, Bondi: Playground of the Pacific, and Wild Life. It also includes the Kunstkammer, a life-sized replica of Zahalka’s home studio, for which she won the Bowness Prize in 2023. This engaging installation invites visitors to explore the artist’s creative life and famous worlds.
Anne Zahalka’s work explores cultural and environmental points of tension, interrogating them with humour and a critical perspective which starts conversations. Her practice deconstructs familiar scenes, re-presenting them to allow for alternative narratives that reflect on cultural diversity within Australian society and the ecological impact of the global climate crisis.
Zahalka exhibited in the 2010 Head On Photo Festival. Find out more.
