The pictures are from the photographers recently published book, A World of People. They are images, from all over the world, of people from a wide variety of professions, status or work and in the main taken over the last four or five years. Some were for assignments (New York Times/International Herald Tribune) and others personal work.
By nature Sernack’s photography is reportage and photojournalistic. He has had the opportunity to meet interesting people across the world and listen to their stories. Everybody has a story.
He is more interested in capturing people in their own environment than creating a staged set piece. Sernack says “This demands engagement, which I think is the vital ingredient for a successful image. Also it often requires some speed and a deal of luck. ”
“When it all comes together the viewer can experience a real connection with the subject.” Choosing the images for the book wasn’t easy. In some cases the subject’s story is compelling in itself, in some the image is particularly strong. Others are special to to the photographer.
