Simon Ross: The Transit Lounge

Killing a couple of hours in an airport a few years ago, I found myself wondering about the way that we pass through each other’s orbits, mostly unnoticed, maybe sharing the odd glance, or a small conversation while we pass the time. And then the boarding call comes, we depart the terminal, and each other’s stories.

The Transit Lounge is where we sit a while, a response to the cult of the decisive moment, and an exercise in seeing.

Marty Walker: Katoomba

My work is centred around the spaces and moments that exist within the built environment. Glass barriers serve to keep us out while letting us see in. They can also reflect our lives back at us, distorting the world around us we take for granted.

About Videre Collective

Videre means ‘to see’, and our small collective brings together a group of Antipodean artists creating work of, and about, these southern lands. We seek to share what we see.

We come together to share ideas, seek each others counsel and support each other in our effort to communicate in the language we know. While this is often an intrinsically individual pursuit, we find strength in coming together and sharing our work.

Generation X

A native of the east coast of New Zealand & now based in inner city Sydney, Australia, my practice roams through conceptual work, people, urban and other ‘scapes, all connected somehow to my observations of this life.

Marty Walker:

There isn’t an aspect of photography I don’t love. As an art form there are so many possibilities. My primary professional interest is abstract and urban street photography.

I’m interested in what makes people tick, what they do and why. I like to observe patterns in people’s movement through the spaces they occupy and, occasionally, their reactions to one another.

I don’t typically go looking for a photograph. As with a lot of things in life, you’re often presented with a unique gesture, an arrangement of shapes, a reflection or an interesting fall of light. The world can be a complete surprise.

My work is held in both private and public collections and has been shown in group exhibitions such as Australian Life, Vivid (Hidden ARt at the MCA), About Town (Rex-Livingstone Gallery), Hawkesbury Art Fair, and the Blue Mountains Cultural Centre).
