In The Other Side of the Rainbow Rachael Everitt captures the interiors of abandoned and empty; motels, roadhouses, houses and landscapes across the states of South Australia and Western Australia.

Created during her recent solo bicycle road trip, raising funds for suicide prevention, the 2010 People’s Choice recipient at the Marrickville Contemporary Art Prize, delves further into her inquiry into issues of abandonment and its relationship to human mental health and suicide.

This photographic series explores violence by depicting contexts and actions of and within fabricated portrayals. Mahoney uses family and friends as models and stages fictitious crime scenes where the positioning of the figures reflects imagery associated with domestic violence and horror cinema. The stage is set spectacularly in blues and greens, with blood oozing from the woundless victims yet here, there are no knives cutting or guns firing but rather the provocative use of parody.
