The Untold Story continues Deborah Paauwe’s investigation into portraiture, with a focus on colour and textiles. The work shifts between fiction and reality to explore the impact of childhood memories on adult life, highlighting the difficult and often ambiguous distinction between ‘girl’ and ‘woman’. By arranging her subject matter in tableaux form, Paauwe’s works suggest produced or distilled memory. By doing so, the works interrogate the shifting and interlocking world of childhood memories and their impact on adult life.

Deborah graduated from the South Australian School of Art, University of South Australia in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts Degree (Visual Arts) and in 2000 completed her MA in Fine Art Degree at the Chelsea School of Art, London.
