TIME EXPOSURES: 60 LIFE PORTRAITS is an exhibition by Sharon Zwi’s consisting of a series of 60 portraits of each person over their life time. She wrote to people inviting them to participate in her project, and this is the result of it.

This exhibition celebrates the lives of the selected subjects from childhood to adulthood through images that are largely sourced by the people themselves from their own photo albums and archives. Sharon has chosen people whose achievements she admires, across a broad social strata. Some people she knows personally, many others she knows by reputation and referral. With an interest in history and in the power of photography to tell a visual story she was driven to record the paths and passages of peoples lives and the way they change over time – the chronology of individual lives. All the images are presented in black and white in the style of traditional analogue photography and are seen in grids akin to a contact sheet, which was commonly used to show clients the different images they could choose from after being photographed in a photography studio. Each portrait is made up of 25 images spanning the person’s life.
