The backstage of Tbilisi

A ten-story building without windows and railings. It used to be a Soviet hospital. Today it serves as a place of refuge for Georgian refugees who came from Abkhazia. Thousands of ethnic Georgians who lived in Abkhazia were expelled during the Georgian-Abkhazian conflict between 1992 and 1993. They arrived in Tbilisi and settled in the abandoned building.
The sun’s rays partially light dark corridors. Adult voices emanate from beyond the broken doors. Each apartment has its story – stories about poverty, sickness, and destroyed families.
A spontaneous decision to join a photography trip to Ethiopia transformed my life. After years as a clinical trials coordinator in Israel and raising three children, this journey marked the beginning of a new professional and personal adventure. I’ve since travelled to remote places, captivated by diverse cultures and lifestyles. I am particularly drawn to the simplicity of daily life and human interactions. These encounters engage all my senses, and my challenge is to capture the unique sights, smells, sounds, and atmosphere of each location while sharing my perspective through photography.
With an $70,000 prize pool, it represents a global selection of the best work from emerging and established photographers.
