Galerie pompom presents Take Your Best Shot, a solo exhibition by Emma Thomson.

Take Your Best Shot looks at the ritual of women who take part in the tradition of hunting. In the bush surrounding Dubbo feral animals and female hunters thrive. Together with their pet dogs, groups of women are catching and killing wild boars and feral animals. With reference to the culture of online self-publishing, Take Your Best Shot challenges the male dominated sport and captures its new breed of female enthusiasts. Emma Thomson’s photographs engage these women after the hunt to investigate the element of performance and the active role of the sitter in contemporary photography.

This series of new work was made as part of a residency program at Dubbo Regional Gallery earlier this year and the complete series of work will be shown there in 2014.

Museums and Galleries NSW and the Copyright Agency Limited support this exhibition.

Friday 17 May: Emma Thomson will be in conversation with Kent Buchanan (Curator, Western Plains Cultural Centre) at Galerie Pompom

RSVP 14 May [email protected]
