Some Other Place brings together five artists connected with Blacktown, who have created commissioned photomedia and installation works for Blacktown Arts Centre. Each artist’s work refers to and comments on another place, be it a physical space somewhere in the world or a place elsewhere with a personal and social connection.

Alex Cyreszko, Ryan Hickey, Mehr Javed, Abdullah M.I. Syed and Luping Zeng experimental approaches to materials and processes reveal raised surfaces, almost sculptural forms, which shift and alter our perceptions of those other places. Whether we see these artworks as containing an image within, or whether we see the artworks as an image itself makes for a playful counterpart to the expressive qualities of the real or imagined places.
