Players: Australian women in sport, is a curatorial proposal that examines the diversity of Australian urban women who play sport, through an Australian lens. The exhibition will present the journeys of serious women players, whether they are professionals or weekend warriors. These women are from different backgrounds, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islanders, identify as LGBTQI+, women with disability, and culturally and linguistically diverse. We want the viewer to experience in the sharing and learning of these women’s customs and culture through sport.

These photographs are 3D holographic lenticulars, 100cm x 72cm in size

The exhibition will reveal their cultural and social histories for the women featured. It will consider new ways of living and being. Connecting important urban narratives to global women’s issues including, body image, cultural and disability stereo-types, ageism and gender.
They are extraordinary women outside of sport. Each of these women has challenged social norms to play sport. Their fears and insecurities are the foundations that have empowered their passions, to experience larger and richer lives.
We hope through this exhibition to empower women and girls through the acknowledgement that they do not need to compromise their identity or sacrifice their self-esteem in order to find acceptance.
