Nights in June

Robin Shaw’s work explores traditional subjects of beauty and curiosity through her unique eye, rendering them unfamiliar, provocative and challenging. Using her idiosyncratic and experimental film processes, the subjects of her work evolve beyond images of landscapes and nudes but into a greater exploration of these concepts.
Shaw’s work creates a powerful synergy between landscapes and nudes drawing parallels in both their expected beauty and inherent violence. This synergy is emphasised through her female eye. The innate immediacy and drama of Shaw’s work evokes the connection between the primal and instinctive elements of human nature whilst still being cerebral and speaking to our subconscious. In this way, Shaw forces us to intellectualise our instincts and draws us away from the established and conventional responses to these mediums, towards the innately visceral.
