From a Changed North is an ongoing project documenting Germany’s post-industrial Ruhr area – Koenning’s place of birth and estranged home of many years.

With regional cities in decline, parts of the area have long been dubbed as the country’s ‘low-income hotspot’. Now, everyone and everything here seem to be waiting for something.
