Giancarlo and Federica’s exploration of Morocco is a vivid tapestry of saturated colours and warm light, where shadows engage in a dynamic dialogue with their surroundings. These shadows not only envelop the depicted characters but also embody the private realities of local people, suggesting the limits of a stranger’s gaze and hinting at an unknown force or future. In some photographs, light prevails as a mystical presence, illuminating urban details and infusing life with incredible vibrancy. This work draws inspiration from Harry Callahan’s colour photography and Harry Gruyart’s deep connection to Morocco.

The daily lives of Moroccans in the medina are infused with the interplay of shadows and light, creating essential geometric forms that echo the photographic process itself. Each captured moment reflects Morocco’s enchanting beauty, evoking memories of the vibrant energy in Marrakech, leisurely strolls by Essaouira’s port, and the thrill of navigating Fez’s narrow alleys. The azure steps of Chefchaouen and the lively streets of Meknes add to this rich experience.

These photographs show a country of bewitching beauty, where each place we visited gifted us with incredible emotions.

MAROC mon amour is the idea of a travelogue that can forever preserve our experience.
