Marisleidis + Jenni

Marisleidis + Jenni is an intimate insight into the lives of two prostitutes currently working in Havana Cuba. They have been selling their bodies since 9 years of age and Marisleidis supports a baby son, Bryan. They work in various safe houses (casas), whose owners also take a commission of about $10AUD. Prostitution is rife in Cuba, driven primarily by the need to escape meagre state salaries. In Cuba, the most a doctor or lawyer could earn would be about $60AUD per month, but Marisleidis + Jenni can earn that in one day. Prositituion is illegal in Cuba but they have given permission for their photographs to be seen in Australia. “When everything [in Cuba] changes” they would like to be hairdressers one day.
