‘A Loved One Sleeping’ is an exhibition of photography and video works by Sydney based artist Yvette Hamilton. Inspired by Victorian-era mourning portraiture, ‘A Loved One Sleeping’ memorializes the creative space that was the ‘FraserStudios’ artists’ studios; a Chippendale warehouse space that was offered to artists as part of the Frasers Central Park development. Hamilton was amongst the last group of artists to inhabit the studios before they were handed back to the developers, and she concentrated her work on responding to the inherent tension of the site as it teetered on the edge of its demise.

These photograph and video works were taken during and after her residency, the works presenting both presence and absence. Yvette Hamilton is an Australian artist working in photomedia, film, video and installation. Her practice examines and explores the liminal realm between space and consciousness, primarily concentrating on the ineffable, the immaterial and the sublime. She has exhibited widely in Australia, at galleries such as Australian Centre for Photography, First Draft, Gaffa and The Centre for Contemporary Photography and has also exhibited in London and Slovenia. She is currently a Master of Fine Arts (Research) candidate at Sydney College of the Arts, University of Sydney.
